Lauren is an occupational therapist, a certified work capacity evaluator, and tutorial lead at the University of British Columbia. Services from Lauren are centred in client driven goals, with an emphasis on listening, facilitating and coaching people to attain their desired outcomes. Assessments and treatments are grounded in an evidence-based approach with an emphasis on measuring change and progress. As an occupational therapist, Lauren focuses on functional goals while assessing and treating the physical, cognitive and emotional aspects of the person, addressing environmental barriers and analyzing the way people do the activities they need to do in their life. Lauren has a positive, caring, open and flexible approach to working with people. Professionally, she has a particular interest in concussion care, persistent pain care and return to work.
Lauren has over 18 years’ experience working in a variety of roles and with different populations. From acute care surgical, neurological, and psychiatric care, to community OT roles in both Vancouver and Toronto, Lauren has developed a wide array of OT skills. In 2009, Lauren began working in private practice providing care to clients with an emphasis on return to function and return to work. This included populations with orthopaedic injuries, repetitive strain injuries, head injuries, chronic pain, and mental health issues. She has provided comprehensive functional and cognitive abilities evaluations, as well as ergonomic assessments and job demands analyses. Lauren has worked on teams including the Head Injury Assessment and Treatment Services, and Occupational Rehabilitation 2. She has also worked at a management level providing OT staff with training, mentorship, performance management and program development. Lauren is experienced in completing medial legal assessments including Physical Capacity Evaluations and Cost of Future Care Assessments. She is registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of BC. She participates in regular and on-going professional development to ensure best practice skills.
Lauren graduated with 1st class standing from McMaster University in 2004 with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, where she was awarded most innovative project in her graduating class. She completed her final clinical placement in Vellore, India.
Lauren has always had an interest in people and cultures from around the world. She has travelled extensively, including completing volunteer work while living for 5 months in Indonesia and teaching English as a second language while living for a year in Japan. When not working, Lauren enjoys a busy life with her husband and two children. She has a passion for downhill skiing and Flamenco dancing.
